Customization Overview
Control how your chatbot looks, what it says, and which model powers its responses.
Customization controls how your chatbot looks, what it says, and which model powers its responses. All of these settings live in your chatbot's Customization settings.
Public vs. private chatbots
The options you see depend on the chatbot's visibility. A public chatbot (typically a website chatbot embedded for visitors) exposes the full set of options below. A private chatbot (often a knowledge base chatbot) shows a simplified panel with only the model version and the dashboard citation toggle. Learn more in Visibility.
The three areas
Customization is organized into three areas. Start with whichever matters most for your launch.
Appearance
Style the widget--avatar, theme mode, color palette, and Denser branding.
Messages & prompts
Set the welcome message, suggested questions, input placeholder, and the assistant's persona.
Model & citations
Choose the LLM version, toggle source citations, and add support contacts.
Denser supports two setups: website chatbots (a public embed shown to your visitors) and knowledge base chatbots (often private, for internal use). Both share the same Customization panel--only the available options differ based on visibility.
